  3. PLEASE MAKE SURE THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION IS CORRECT FOR YOUR CHILD! • Full name • Birthday • Address and all phone numbers • All email addresses • If different than their full name: the name you would like your child to be called while at school and for them to learn to write

  4. A.M.Unloading: • Students may arrive between 8:00-8:25a.m. • Students enter the front doors and wait in the atrium with the rest of the school. • When excused students will go to the classroom. • Breakfast is served, if wanted

  5. A.M. Loading • Begins at 11:30a.m. M-Th; Fridays: 10:30a.m. • Follow the arrows in parking lot for proper loading procedures • Children will be picked-up at the Kindergarten doors • Teacher aides will be calling carpool names. • Please have green visor cards visible at all times. • Parent note required if child is going home with another student, that they is normally don’t go home with.

  6. P.M.Unloading: • Students may arrive between 11:55 -12:05. • Students will enter through the front doors where our Teacher’s Assistant will meet them, and line them up by the third grade doors, until 12:05.

  7. P.M. Loading • Students will join the rest of the school in the atrium for loading. • Loading will start at 3:10. • Please follow the guidelines in the parking lot for loading. • Students will need to stay with our class until your car is called then brothers and sisters may come and get them. • Walkers will meet brothers and sisters in the gym, not in the classroom. • Parent note is required if child is going home with another student, that they normally don’t go home with.

  8. Early Check-out or Late to School: • If you need to check your student out early, you must go to the office. • If you are late to school, you must go to the office. • We cannot open the Kindergarten doors to you.

The Curriculum and Learning Environment • For L.A., Summit uses FUNDATIONS as the foundation for Utah’s Common Core for Language Arts. • For Math, Summit uses GO MATHas the foundation for Utah’s Common Core for Math. • For Writing, Summit uses BEING A WRITER to accomplish Common Core Skills in writing.

  11. Summit Academy • Levels L.A. and Math classes • L.A. class is child’s homeroom class • I will be teaching above grade level in L.A • I will be teaching on grade level for Math • Your child may have Mrs. Burgess for Math

  12. Red Homework Folder • Students will bring the red folder homeeach night. • Please check for papers nightly and return only the papers required. • Behavior Chart: • Green: Had an awesome day!! • Yellow: Some difficulties • Red: Child made some sad choices.

  13. Red Homework Folder cont. • Example: • Planner packet on the class webpage. • Fundations homework • School is paperless • Let me know if you need a printed copy. • Fridays: • Return the Planner page with signatures Only. • No need to return other homework pages.

  14. Go Math! • Students may be Mrs. Burgess for Math! • If they are in my class, there will be one page of nightly homework. • Please help your child, as needed, to complete their homework and return it daily.

Parent Volunteers WE LOVE OUR PARENT VOLUNTEERS!!!!! 5 types of Volunteers: • Room Parent or Co-Room Parent: • Help coordinate different events during the school year • Party Parents:Halloween, Thanksgiving Feast, Winter Party, Valentines, Road Rally, and End of Year Party! • Be in charge of a specific party. Please indicate which party you would like to be in charge of!

  16. Parent Volunteers!! Cont. • Language Arts Volunteers: • Monday & Tuesday from 8:40-9:40. • Please indicate which day and how many times a month you would like to come. • Folder Parents: • Come at the beginning of school and it will take around 10-15 minutes • Monday-Friday • Please indicate which day you would like and how many times a month. • Copy Parents: • Come any day of the week at any time that works for you. • Please let me know when you want to come so I can have items prepared for you!

  17. Vacations • Please notify the office when you will be going on vacation. • Summit’s vacation policy includes not handing out homework prior to absences. • You will receive it after your vacation!! ENJOY YOUR VACATION!!!!!

  18. Donations!!! • Parents not able to volunteer but would still like to donate to the classroom: • May donate money to be used throughout the year to cover class parties!!

  19. Scholastic Book Orders • Great way to increase your library at home!! • Book orders will be sent home monthly. • There will be two due dates: 15th and 25th of every month. • On-line is best way to order books. • Class code is: Q8VNP

  20. STAR STUDENT and VIP • Students will each get a full week to be the STAR STUDENT!! • We will try to do it around student’s birthday. • May make half a poster all about the student or fill out the STAR STUDENT paper. • Note home with details the week before. • Way to spotlight each student!!

  21. Birthdays! • We celebrate birthdays in our class! Let us know if you prefer not to celebrate your child’s. • Birthday treats are GREAT! but please keep them simple. • Remember, they must be store bought! • Summer birthdays will be celebrated on their half birthday! • If you do not want to bring a treat, you may donate any item, like a book, and we will put your child’s name on it, as a keepsake.

  22. Dressing for Kindergarten • For Boys: • Shirts – Solid White or Maroon/Burgundy Polo Shirts or Button-down Oxford Shirts (short or long sleeve). Pants and Shorts – Navy Blue 2 Side Pocket Pants or Shorts.  Navy jeans are not permitted • For Girls: • Shirts/Blouses – Solid White or Maroon/Burgundy Polo or Button-down Oxford Blouses (short or long sleeve). Pants, Shorts, Skirts, Skorts, or Jumpers/Dresses – Navy Blue 2 Side Pockets.  Leggings in white, black or navy blue are only permitted if worn underneath shorts, skirts or jumper.  Navy jeans are not permitted.

  23. Dressing for Kindergarten • Boys and Girls: • Shoes - Students may wear any closed toe shoe or closed heel athletic shoe with a non-marking sole. Shoes with wheels, lights, or electronics are not permitted. Slippers, sandals, flip flops, or backless shoes may not be worn. • Sweater/Jackets/Sweatshirts - if worn in the classroom or inside the school, should be solid Navy Blue, White or Maroon/Burgundy with or without the Summit Academy Logo, or School approved. • Please label all coats, boots, gloves, etc. with child’s first and last name. • Please check the school’s lost and found for any lost items.

  24. Snack Time • We are a Peanut and Tree nut free classroom! • Due to Health Department regulations, All food must be store bought! • Please make sure your child eats • before coming to school • Healthy snacks will be provided daily. • Children love it when they bring their snack to school!

  25. Please bring the completed “All About Me” paper back the 1st week of school, we will be doing a get to know you activity with it.

  26. First Day of School • The first day of school will be Tuesday, August 29th. • It will be from 8:25-11:30 or 12:05-3:10 • This is the first day without you.

  27. Review: • Volunteer sign-ups are on the table. • Remember to indicate which type of volunteering you would like to do and the days and times. • ”All About Me” papers are also on the table. • Remember they are due back the 1st week of school. • Introduction letter to our class is also on the table. Please take these papers before leaving!!!
