  3. Plant Science Major Suggested subject combinations for second year The School of Botany offers a number of core plant science subjects at second year level. Plants and the Environment (Sem.1) and Plant Biodiversity (Sem. 2) are recommended for all students. Choose other subjects depending on whether your interest lies with either cell biology or the whole plant. A sensible selection of subjects will keep your options open within the Plant Science major, as well as for other majors. Make an appointment to discuss your subject choice with a Botany course adviser • Cell Biology and Biotechnology • Fundamentals of Cell Biology (516-211) • Cells Tissues and Organs (516-212) • Plants and the Environment (606-201) • Plant Biodiversity (606-202) • Choose additional subjects from: • Biotechnology • Principles of Genetics • Genes and Genomes • Experiments in Genetics • Biochemistry and Molecular Biology • Techniques in Protein and Gene Technology • Ecology/Evolution/Marine Biology • Plants and the Environment (606-201) • Plant Biodiversity (606-202) • Flora of Victoria (606-207) • Ecology (654-219) • Choose additional subjects from: • Principles of Genetics • Australian Wildlife Biology • Statistics

  4. Suggested third year subjects for a plant science major in different areas • Plant Ecology and Environment • Functional Plant Biology • Vegetation Management & Conservation • Field Botany • Choose additional subjects from: • Plant Systematics and Evolution • Research Project • Marine Botany and Marine Phytoplankton of Australia • Environmental Risk Assessment • Problem Solving in Environmental Science • Marine Botany • Marine Botany • Marine Phytoplankton of Australia • Choose additional subjects from: • Plant Systematics and Evolution • Functional Plant Biology • Research Project • Vegetation Management & Conservation • Field Botany • Plant Cell Biology and Biotechnology • Plant Molecular Biology and Biotechnology • Concepts in Cell and Developmental Biology • Functional Plant Biology • Choose additional subjects from: • Research Project • Marine Botany and Marine Phytoplankton of Australia • Plant Biodiversity and Evolution • Plant Systematics and Evolution • Vegetation Management & Conservation • Field Botany • Marine Botany • Marine Phytoplankton of Australia • Choose additional subjects from: • Functional Plant Biology • Research Project
