GGF Compute Area Meeting GGF17, Tokyo, 11 May 2006
Agenda 1. Group Updates 2. Inter-group issues 3. AOB
OGSA-BES-WG • Andrew Grimshaw reporting • Draft sent to GFSG • Draft withdrawn (returned to authors) after proposal (ESI – Execution Service Interface) from Foster and Snelling • Hopeful that can use OGSA-BES in OGSA-HPC profile. • Must get revised draft out by June/July to be relevant • taking resource model from ESI, plus agreed modifications • state union model from OGSA HPC Profile • cautious optimism that revised OGSA-BES might be acceptable to Globus and UNICORE • primary customer is HPC profile work
JSDL-WG • Steve McGough reports • cautiously optimistic that they will meet tomorrow • on parallel jobs (session 1-2), and timescales for other docs (session 2) • working on parallel job extension to JSDL to 1.0 (a “micro-spec”) • provisional estimate GGF18 earliest for first draft • JSDL 1.0 is GFD.56, a proposed recommendation • Planned • possible interop plans document? to be discussed • interoperability document (for advancement to rec status, and also to advise GIN) • primer document (informational) • then re-evaluate
OGSA-RSS • Donal Fellows reporting • Matthias Dalheimer has resigned as co-chair • Soonwook resigned before last GGF • Action: Donal to remove co-chairs from gridforge page • Need another co-chair, and more workers • Milestone update: • milestones slipping, will need to review and update
GSA-RG • Philipp Wieder reporting from Tokyo! • GFD.64 (Informational) use case document published • In queue: grid scheduling requirements document • had hoped for draft by GGF17 • will now be GGF18 • landscape wider than expected • Core of GSA-RG interested in inter-scheduler instance communications (between grid-schedulers) • might be another document
GRAAP-WG • Wolfgang Ziegler reporting • Original use case document dusted off and now in public comment • 3 sessions this GGF, all on one day 1. public comment issues, not quite complete • re-submission by end May 2. presentations on “dynamic SLAs” (Omar Rana [using ranges], and Victor Yarmolenko [using functions]) to eliminate re-negotiation overhead 3. future work
GRAAP-WG (II) • Future work • Use case document for dynamic SLAs (authors identified, first version in three weeks, to publish GGF18) • Planning ½ day workshop on Sunday before GGF18 (subject to room availability) on implementations of WS-Agreement • Domain-specific terms needed on network, storage, licenses, reservations, penalties,... • people known for network, storage, instruments, penalties (to be confirmed) • talk to JSDL on job terms
OGSA-HPCP-WG (proposed) • Charter discussion BoF Tuesday • Profile (in WS-I sense) • identify holes in specs and propose fills as extensions • base use case is HPC on single cluster • web service interface to queuing system (oversimplified) • see strong need for interaction with JSDL and BES
