Project beneficiaries • have little or no English language • unable to access mainstream ESOL support, as delivered via the Skills Funding Agency • live in areas with high demand for ESOL • are aged 19+

How does it work? There are 5 strands to the project: #1 Talk English Courses #2 Talk English Friends #3 Talk English Activities #4 Talk English Here #5 Talk English Web
Learners on a Talk English Course Courses • For beginners • Take place in community settings • Taught by volunteers who are recruited and trained through the project
Why volunteers though? • Enable us to engage with a greater number of learners with limited funding • Lack of funding at Pre-entry- enables us to plug a gap • Stepping stone into more formal learning • Involves the wider community in English learning • Benefits to volunteers
Recruit Recruit volunteers through various channels- local networks, social media, the website Assess their suitability- level, attitude, motivation Train Offer an initial teacher training, some areas offer Level 3 Award in Education and Training Placement starts alongside training (in week 2- 4) Support Materials from the website and classroom kit boxes Visits and supportive observations Chance to shadow an experienced teacher Ongoing CPD/volunteer networks
