Web • Trapdoor spiders dig a shaft in the ground to live in. They make a trapdoor to get in and out of the shaft. That is why they are called trapdoor spiders. The trapdoor is made of silk. The spider digs a tunnel and lines it with silk to catch insects.The tunnel is one foot long.The spider gets food without ever coming out of the shaft.When an insect comes near , the trapdoor spider puts its fang in the insect and wraps it in silk.
Babies • Trapdoor spiders lay 100 to 150 eggs. They hatch in August and September. The females lay their eggs in a silken cocoon on the wall of the shaft.
Enemies • The trapdoor spider’s worst enemies are people and wasps.
