  2. DigitalWell Overview • Digital Asset Management System (DAMS) • Collaborating platform • Content rights for public and private audiences • End to end content repository and delivery system • Automated/Semi-automated encoding • Content descriptions through standard metadata schemas • Content ingestion into multiple storage mediums • Collaborative platform

  3. DigitalWell Version Status • R1 (Release 1) migration underway • Version enhancements • Advanced custom fields • Ability to download (in addition to stream) • Web Services API (WSAPI) • Currently integrating SRB • Future enhancements • Advanced search capabilities • Support for multiple metadata schemas

  4. Code Publishing Plan • In planning stages to offer DigitalWell code base • Currently pursuing a dual offering: • Open Source = available to academic and qualified research organizations • Cost model = available to corporate “for profit” organizations • Call for participation • Interested early adopters should contact a UW representative

  5. Open Source Model • UW maintains master version of the source • DW users “publish” feature enhancements and code modifications to a community site • Technical Board will decide official code changes and version releases • Code not included in official code base will be available for integration at end-users discretion • DigitalWell public site in development • Q1 2006 = more details

  6. SRB Integration • DigitalWell • Share content and metadata • Integration with heterogeneous DAMS • UW Digital Libraries collection • Currently using DSpace for static content • Implementing DigitalWell for moving images and audio • Offers integration with disparate library collections • Enterprise solutions • Simplified integration and migration

  7. DW/SRB Integration Status • Test SRB system has been established • Publishing metadata to MCAT and content to SRB • Identifying application modifications necessary to DW for sharing

  8. DW/SRB Configuration • Content ingested into DigitalWell through admin interface • Content selected for sharing gets pushed to SRB server • Text file describing metadata pushed to MCAT • Current configuration only pushes content to SRB

  9. Next Steps • Ferret details of implementation • Scope out detailed architecture • API vs. native storage repositories • Communication with DigitalWell • Build trusted partnership model • DRM requirements

  10. Contact • Myke Smith, Streaming Media Manager • mykes@washington.edu • Jim DeRoest, Streaming Media Director • deroest@washington.edu
