Mathew 5:1-123 Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. 5 Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. 6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. 7 Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. 8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. 9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God. 10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Key Word: Blessed
Key Word: Blessed Definition? • Translation = “Happy” or “Blessed” • “Joy” is a trait of maturity in John 15:1-17 • More than a subjective feeling - an objective condition or status • Defined by promises associated with each quality listed (spiritual & substantive) • Both present and future • Result of salvation – not basis for salvation
Key Word: Blessed Definition? It is as if Jesus is saying that life in the kingdom with him is a life of profound joy, a joy that no person and no circumstance can take away. And this blessedness is not reserved for some nebulous future. It is for now! Michael Green
