  1. RAINBOW TRUST AFRICA

  2. Rainbow Projects 2003 • Relief – food aid • Outreach – new evangelist/pastor • Grannies and orphans • Maramba Old Peoples’ Home • Health – rural mobile clinics • Sponsored children in King’s Primary and Rainbow Pre-school

  3. Future plans • A daycare facility for children orphaned by AIDS/HIV • To extend education programme in the region • To extend the provision of free treatment for malaria, worms and bilharzia

  4. Food aid started last year following severe drought in Southern Zambia. There were some rains during rainy season but not enough for the crops - there is still hunger, so food distribution continues.

  5. Food for the family

  6. Malime Village

  7. Outreach • 4 recent village churches have started meeting • Outreach workers are meeting with several smaller groups • Another motorbike is needed for the new evangelist/pastor

  8. A meeting house for the church in Siavonga nears completion

  9. Young visitors from UK sing “O Happy Day!” in Zwanga.

  10. Grannies ProjectCurrently, Rainbow provides food for 15 grannies and 1 grandad who are caring for orphaned grandchildren

  11. 4 houses have been constructed or bought for those grannies who were homeless • Several of the grandchildren are sponsored for school

  12. Being an OAP in Livingstone

  13. Maramba Old People’s Home • 32 old people live in this home which relies on goodwill from local churches and businesses for food and essentials • Rainbow regularly supplies food and other practical help • The Impact teams have helped with renovation of the very basic accommodation each year

  14. Rural Health – mobile clinics • Health care is provided at 5 different locations outside Livingstone each week • People living close to these villages are visibly healthier and needing less treatment • Others travel long distances to get help, especially for children • The clinical officer and nurse are accompanied on each clinic visit by a church worker who will take a bible study or do some one to one evangelism/discipleship

  15. Zambia Facts and figures • Population - 10.5 million • Life expectancy – 38 years • Unemployment -90% • Child mortality – 20% of children in urban areas die before they reach 5 yrs, in rural areas it is 33% • In Livingstone, 35% of adults are registered as HIV positive. The true figure will be much higher due to social stigma and lack of awareness

  16. A place of contrasts

  17. King’s Primary and Rainbow Pre-School

  18. Sponsorship for Education • 120 children are currently sponsored through Rainbow. • Sponsorship of £17 per month provides education, clothes, shoes, a cooked meal every school day, and healthcare if the child is sick

  19. Zambia is beautiful! Let us not grow weary in doing good, for in due season we shall reap a harvest if we do not lose heart. So then, as we have opportunity let us do good to all men, and especially to those who are in the household of faith. Galatians 6:9
