6. Peltier Element – Theory of Operation Peltier element is a thermoelectric device that can push heat in either way, depending on the direction of the current through the device.
Solid-state “heat pump”
Operated by electric current
Very reliable, no moving parts
Heat is “transported” by the current from one surface to the other.
Result: more than 100% efficient heating
Electric dissipation + transported heat is pumped through the hot surface of the Peltier
7. Dynamic Temperature Control Temperature inside the enclosure is not regulated as long as it stays within the 5 .. 50 deg C range (this will result in a difference between internal and external temp of approx 15 – 20 deg)
As soon as internal temperature goes over 50 deg C the enclosure starts cooling, so temp difference drops.
When internal temperature goes below 5 deg C the enclosure will start heating, so the internals stay above freezing (0 deg C)
When unit is powered while below zero degrees C, it will self-heat and allow the unit to boot up when temperature reaches zero degrees (red LED on).
8. Internal Unit Temperature The MP.11-R radio board has a digital temperature sensor that can be read via the IIC bus, so the temperature at the PCB level, next to the radio can be monitored.
The sample period can be configured in minutes: 1, 5, 10, 15, .., 60.
The sampled temp history will be available in a log
The log can be exported to a file
The duration logged is at least 2 days at 5 min period.
A trap will be sent and the temp logged when the temperature approaches the limits by 5 deg C
An event will be logged and a trap issued when the temp goes outside the specified range from 0 to +55 deg C
9. MP.11-R PoE Injector Power Supply providing 48V through Ethernet to power rugged units
NOT 802.3af compliant
The temperature control needs more power than 802.3af power budget
MP.11-R units can not be powered by 802.3af power supply
It may run for some time, but eventually will not work
MP.11-R Power supply can power other PoE devices (48V 420mA)
Connectors on PoE injector:
Euro AC (100 .. 240V)
Ethernet Data modular plug for LAN
Ethernet Data + Power modular plug towards 5054 R/2454 R The unit is equipped with an Active Ethernet module. Using Power-over-Ethernet (PoE), you can provide electricity and wired connectivity to the unit over a single Category 5 cable. Although the power injector that is supplied with the unit is 802.3af-compatible, standard 802.3af-compliant power modules will not properly power the units.
Always use the supplied power injector.
The Active Ethernet integrated module provides –48 VDC over a standard Cat5 Ethernet cable.
Maximum power supplied to the unit is 20 Watts.
The units typically draw less than 7.5 Watts. The unit is equipped with an Active Ethernet module. 10. Remote Reload detection The power injector has a Remote Reload button, because the local Reload button is not accessible inside the enclosure.
Pressing the Remote Reload button toggles the polarity of the 48V PoE supply lines.
Operation is not harmed, because the power supply in the rugged enclosure uses a full-bridge rectifier
The polarity reversal is sensed and passed to the MP.11 processor via an opto-coupler
The MP.11-R uses the Remote Reload in same way as local Reload:
Press button for 5 sec during normal operation deletes config file and resets the unit to factory default configuration.
Press button during boot sequence will delete config and image files which brings the unit in Bootloader mode.
11. 5 & 10MHz Optional Bandwidths The standard channel bandwidth is 20 Mhz for all MP.11 products.
MP.11-R provide support for alternative 5 MHz and 10MHz bandwidth channel in addition to the standard 20MHz.
Customers can maximize network capacity and allocate bandwidth usage with up to four times greater granularity.
Selection of channel bandwidth, turbo-mode (5054-R only), and multicast rate determines the center frequencies available in the drop down selection list, according to the selected country regulatory domain.
Roaming is now possible between BSUs with different channel bandwidth configurations.

16. Ethernet cable assembly Cable termination material included in the kit:
RJ45 connector plug
Weather tight connector cap
Liquid-tite fitting
Provided cable termination material allows for use of cable of user-required length
Completed cable assemblies are available as “accessories” in three different lengths: 25, 50, 75 meter
17. Mounting of the radio Screw mounting piece (A) to the back of the radio unit with 4 screws and washers (B)
SUs with integrated antenna need to be properly mounted with respect to the antenna polarization (indicated by the arrow on the back of the enclosure)
18. Mounting of the radio Attach bracket connector (C) to mounting piece (A) with the screw provided
This extension piece allows for tilt-adjustments
Attach bracket connector (C) to bracket (E) with the nut and screw provided
19. Mounting of the radio For pole mounting
Use bracket (F) and the screws, washers and nuts provided
Align bracket (F) and bracket (E) on either end of the pole
Insert the screws through the holes in bracket (F) and bracket (E) and tighten the brackets to the pole using the nuts provided
For wall mounting
Mount bracket (E) directly to the wall using 4 screws (not provided)
20. MP.11-R Grounding All units should be properly grounded.
For MP.11-R, use the hole at the bottom point on the back of each radio and the provided grounding screws to attach a ground wire of at least 10 AWG stranded to each radio.
21. Antenna Alignment with audio feedback Only implemented on rugged hardware (beeper on daughterboard)
Beeping starts when either
serial dongle is inserted or
CLI command for Antenna Alignment is issued
And a WORP link is present.
Speed of beeping indicates SNR, longer time between beeps is lower SNR.
Using dongle the antenna alignment can be done without holding/monitoring a PC or terminal.
22. Aligning the antenna The interval between the beeps is based on the average SNR that is recorded
During initial alignment when few readings are available a large change in SNR will result a relative small change in the interval between beeps
More SNR readings are made impact the average such that a small change in SNR results in a larger change in interval between beeps
This allows for fine tuning once getting close to the ideal alignment
First do rough alignment
Then let the unit settle
Then do fine tuning
