  2. Postgraduate Taught Experience Survey • Now in sixth year; • Reaches nearly two-thirdsof UK taught postgraduates; • Response of 58,679 in 2013; • 89 institutions took part in 2013; • 110 institutions expressed interest in PTES 2014.

Postgraduate Taught Experience Survey 2014 • PTES based on other surveys, significantly revised for 2014 after research and sector-wide consultation; • Shorter survey with standardised scales; • Survey can start anytime between February and April, be open for at least three weeks, closing by mid-June; • Benchmarking to mission groups and a custom benchmarking group (of at least eight HEIs); • Confidentiality of results, results through Bristol Online Surveys and from HEA Surveys Team.

What PTES 2014 covers • In addition to 13 NSS questions, including overall satisfaction, PTES covers: • dissertation / major project; • higher level skills, including creativity and research skills; • student engagement, including working with peers, workload, course challenge, and independent learning; • support and guidance, including induction and careers. • [institutional attitudinal questions]

  5. What PTES 2014 covers • In addition to the 37 attitudinal questions, PTES gathers information on: • student motivations to choose the course they did, and perceptions of information that helped them decide; • key demographics e.g. age, mode, employment; • the amount of time they have been out of study and how they are now funding their studies. • [institutional demographic questions]

  6. What PTES 2014 covers • In addition to 60 closed questions, PTES gathers student comments on: • comments about each topic e.g. on assessment and feedback; • the most interesting or exciting part of their course; • the one thing they would like to improve; • how institutions could better provide information to help course decisions. • [Institutional open comment questions]
