  1. Dear Katie, I have just visited one of the Athenian Gymnasiums. But these Gymnasiums weren't just used for strengthening up, they were also use for educating the children of Athens. The boys and girls of Athens started school at the age of seven but they didn’t go to the same ones. Schools for girls weren’t as harsh or demanding as the boys schools were. But, both learned music, grammar, and sports in the Gymnasium. Teachers called the Gammatistes taught reading, writing, arithmetic, and literature. Teachers called Paidotribes taught sports such as wrestling and Gymnastics to strengthen the muscles. Teachers called Kitharistes taught music, and Sophists were tutors. Your Friend, Brooke
