ADULT LEARNING • Co-ordinate and develop targeted adult learning • Provide and commission a range of targeted numeracy and literacy services • Manage, develop and support a network of learning centres • Resettling of Syrian Refugees into Highland Communities • Closing the attainment gap, reducing social isolation, tackling health inequalities and empowering communities Delivered through: Literacies Officers | Learning centres | Community based adult learning | Community Language Assistants | Volunteers

ARCHIVES • Conserve and make accessible archive collections • Records Management Service to all Council services • Operate the Highland Archive Centre and three local Archive Centres • Learning and outreach service • Provide a highland wide family history service Delivered through: Inverness Archive and Registration Centre | The Nucleus – Caithness Archive Centre | Skye Archive Centre | Lochaber Archive Centre A range of new media and web resources

  13. ARTS • Provide local access to works of Highland, national and international importance • Programme the three visual arts galleries • Care for and promote the Council’s art collection Delivered through: Exhibitions Unit | Creative Learning Leader

LEISURE FACILITIES • Deliver low cost, safe leisure opportunities • Curriculum and after school activities • Learn to Swim programme • Coach led activities, personal training/teaching • Holiday programme activity • Specialist venues • Specialist advice Delivered through: Standalone leisure centres – wet and dry | Community schools | Community centres | Sports pitches |Highland Football Academy

LIBRARIES • Improve people’s lives and build stronger communities through literacy information and knowledge • Support the cultural, educational and recreational needs of individuals and communities • Provide access to and support for a wide range of digital resources and services Delivered through: Public libraries | School libraries | Joint school/public library/service point | Mobile Libraries | Library Support Unit Free public access computers and a range of new media and web resources

MUSEUMS • Conserve and make accessible the Council’s museums collections • Provide public access through two regional museums and three local heritage centres and a range of interpretive services • Support organised school visits • Undertake and promote research • Independent Museums Support Delivered through: Highland Folk Museum | Inverness Museum and Art Gallery | Inverness Castle Viewpoint | Heritage and visitor centre | Volunteers

MUSIC TUITION • Access to tuition in as many Highland schools and centres as possible • Develop pathways for young people to progress through appropriate performance opportunities at school, area and regional level • Maintain and develop a highly skilled team of specialist instructors and additional staff and volunteers • Develop opportunities for excellence through Highland Young Musicians activities • Promote the health and wellbeing benefits of music making • Support young people’s progression from Highland activities into the work of national organisations Delivered through: Music Development Officer | Music Instructors | Highland Young Musicians Groups | Freelance specialist staff

SPORT AND OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES • Provide an Active Schools Service in every ILC • Develop pathways for young people to progress from school to after school and community sports • Develop and maintain a range of physical activity and sport opportunities • Provide specialist development officers • Provide specialist advice and guidance to clubs and sports organisations • Manage offsite excursion safety management system • Develop outdoor activity and education programmes Delivered through: Active School Co-ordinators | Specialist development staff, Leadership, Community Sports Hub Officers | Countryside Rangers | Outdoor Activities/safety staff | Two outdoor activities centres | Volunteers

YOUTH WORK • Co-ordinate and develop local provision for young people • Widen opportunities through supporting community partnerships • Support young people to have a voice • Support and develop a range of achievement frameworks • Close the attainment gap • Develop targeted interventions towards young people in need Delivered through: Youth Development Officers | Youth Convener - Youth Voice - Youth Forums -Scottish Youth Parliament Highland reps | Young Scot Card | Duke of Edinburgh Award and a range of youth achievement awards | Support to youth clubs, centres, cafes

Health and Wellbeing Partnership • Macmillan • Parkinson’s UK • UHI: Type 2 Diabetes (live project) and Falls Prevention report (completed) • GP Exercise Referral – new pilot in Grantown • Relocation of some Physio to Leisure Centres • Smoking Cessation in Community Centres • Cardiac Rehab developments • DWP supporting unemployed people back to work

Young People’s Leadership Programme • Aim : To offer opportunities in leadership & transferable life skills in every area of Highland to young people 12-25 years • Supporting wider achievement : Dual accreditation via Community & Youth Achievement Awards. Dance & Sports Leader awards. Duke of Edinburgh, National Pool Life Guard. Links to Saltire Awards. Scottish Governing body awards. HLH “Choose To Lead” Award • Deployment & Employment - opportunities in Museums, Galleries, Leisure, Outdoor, Libraries, Youth, Sport, Archives, Music. We grow our own work force • Partners : Hospice Leaders, STEM Leaders (Aberdeen Science Centre)
