Currents By.Ella
Ocean current • A current takes items in and carries it through the water till it decides to drop it off. Currents are mostly found in the ocean. A current is a body of water that moves different from the water around it. A current is caused by gravity pulling down on the water. As the gravity pulls down on the water it forms a strong and dangerous current.
Rip current • Rip currents are a very dangerous water source for swimmers and surfers. Rip currents are strong moving currents of water. About 150 people die by getting stuck in rip currents. Rip currents kill more people than tornados, hurricanes, and thunderstorms put together.
Long shore current • Long shore currents is a force that pulls you down the beach. Long shore currents are very common. A long shore current is also called a long shore drift. The current is caused by waves crashing against the shore at an angle. The waves go parallel against the shore. A long shore current can take you down the shore before you even know it.
Current rules • If in doubt stay out. • Never swim alone. • If stuck in a rip current swim parallel to the shore. • If you don’t know how to swim stay out. NO SWIMMING
Vocabulary Current: A large portion of air, large body of water moving in a certain direction. Gravity: the force of attraction by which bodies tend to fall toward the center of the earth.
