Introduction • How would you like to become the next presidents of the United States? Imagine taking the place of a past or formal president and imagine how you would run the country? What would you do? What laws would pass? However, in order to become president you must first research that president's history and write at least 5 facts about that president.
Task • Each student will be assigned one president of the United States to research on. • Students will randomly choose a piece of crumble paper from a hat. The piece of crumble paper will have one of the names of the presidents. • I will provide you with the websites for you to research and your task will be to write at least 1 fact from each website.
Task (Continued) • I will provide you with a total of 5 websites where you will get one fact from each, giving you a total of 5 facts. • You will then write the 5 facts about your president on a poster board which I will also provide. • After that you will list at least 3 laws you would make if you were that president and explain why on the poster board. • Last, but not least you will present your 5 facts and 3 laws to the class.
Process 1 • The following websites will be the one’s to guide you on your journey to find the necessary information for your projects. • http://www.ipl.org/div/potus/ • In this website you will have to find and write when your president became president of the United States? In other words, The years in which they where president.
Process 2 • http://www.presidentsusa.net/ • In this website you will have to find and write the birth date and place of your president by clicking on the name of your president on the right of the page. • http://www.whitehouse.gov/about/presidents • In this website you will find and write something your president did for the country.
Process 3 • http://www.einvestigator.com/links/lists/list_of_us_presidents.htm • In this website you will have to find and write your president’s presidential party. • http://www.rong-chang.com/namesdict/presidents.htm • In this website you will find and write where your president stands on the president’s list. EX: first, second ,third, or fourth president of the U.S.
Process 4 • After you are done finding and writing your information on the poster board I will give a piece of paper to write your three laws. It can be anything as long as you explain why you chose them?(REMEMBER! KEEP IT SCHOOL APPROPRIATE) • Your Laws will then be staple on to your poster board. • After that you will get colors and markers to decorate your poster boards. NOTE- I will also print out a picture of your president so that you may add it to your poster .
Accommodations • Students who have a learning disability or have a problem with English will be able to work with another student, but they will each get a different president.
Evaluation • Grading • Did the student have at least 5 facts- 10pts • Did the student have at least 3 laws- 5pts • Did the Student explain his/her laws- 5pts • Did the student have a lot of grammatical errors- 3pt • Creativity- 2pts • Presentation- 5pts • total= 30pts
Conclusion • After completing this assignment students will have a broader knowledge about the presidents of the United States. They will also have demonstrated the use of following instructions.
