What can you Compare? • The Plot (Sequence of events) • The Setting (Time and place) • The Characters (People or animals) • The Problems (Obstacles) • The Themes (Central Meaning) • The Solutions (…of the problem)
The Plot • Use a timeline to show the sequence of events in each story. • Sometimes you need to make a line of the steps you have to take according to the text you are reading.
The setting • Where did each story happen? • What was the time period (time of day, day of the week, month, season or year)?
The Characters • Who were the people in the story (give names)? • If there were not any people, were there any animals?
The Problem • What problems (obstacles) did the main character have? • What was the main problem in the story?
The Theme of the story • What was the central meaning or the story? • What did the story show you about life?
The Solution • How was the problem resolved? • How did the Main Character solve the problem he or she faced?
Story Variants • Is looking at all of the aspects of the story. The Plot, Characters, Problems, Theme, and Solution. • Now is your turn to try…
