  2. * what is The Great Package Race • The Idea： Each carrier has its own freight network through which a package travels and the experience of each package depends on the structure of the network. Ex.Sent books and personal supplies to VSO volunteers in Mongolia

  3. * what is The Great Package Race • For fun, each year teams race packages from The Supply Chain & Logistics Institute at Georgia Tech, Atlanta, GA (USA) to sites around the world via different international parcel carriers (UPS, Fedex, DHL, USPS). They choose locations to challenge the business processes of the multinational package carriers, then observe the results.

  4. * The Great Package Race and Organizational control • Let’s see an example first：

  5. * The Great Package Race and Organizational control • Through the race, an extreme and comprehensive test of the carriers' ability are taking place. • The evaluation criteria is conducting by monitoring all carriers while delivering package and comparing each deliver’s performance with the others. • The competition result will be published.

  6. * The Great Package Race and Organizational control • During this race, package carriers receive practical message about ： • Whether their transportation routes and method are productive enough(which means high efficiency and low cost) to compete with others. • Find their inside problems of respective transport procedures.(Ex. Human error, weak international network …)

  7. * The Great Package Race and Organizational control • After racing, with messages obtained  by this race, each participating team can do their own investigation and design new transportation strategy. That is, correcting problems.

  8. * conclusion • The Great Package Race provides monitoring, comparing and correcting chance to their participators. • So, we can say it’s a good example of organization control.
