Introduction Insurance Institute of India (III) was established in the year 1955 with a vision, “To impart systematic insurance education, training and creating avenues for research and development in the field of insurance and insurance auxiliary services thus developing highly efficient and skilled insurance professionals to serve the humanity in India and abroad.”
Examinations conducted by III -(self learning mode) • Licentiate, Associateship and Fellowship • Foundations of Casualty Actuarial Science (CAS) • Certificate Programme in Advanced Insurance Marketing (CPAIM) • Diploma in Health, Fire and Marine Insurance • Licensing of insurance agents and surveyors
Knowledge Management Centre (KMC) KMC Consist of • Publishing a research journal on issues affecting the industry and E-Newsletter (Weekly and Monthly) to spreads insurance updates about new areas being developed in the industry. • Library to provide professionals with publications on insurance.
Library Mission To be the best Insurance library by being recognized as the one stop hub of all insurance and related material. • Library Collection Around 6800 covers Insurance, Management, Economics and Finance. • Library Users Participants of COI, Insurance professionals, Researchers, College students, Academic Institutes etc…. • Types of Library Membership • Walk-in Library • Online Lending Library (OLL) • Group Corporate Membership (GCM Online)
Why Online Lending Library (OLL) • Insurance professionals spreads across country. • Impossible to visit library on regular intervals. • Impossible to set library at various locations. • Insurance books are very costly. • Insurance books not easily available with local book sellers. • III library having good collection of Insurance books. • III realizes the need of book service outside Mumbai.
Objectives of OLL • To allow members to select the books online. • To provides the requested books to members at doorstep . • To save the time of user to visit and get the book. • To keep OLL structure user friendly as it can incorporate new changes in future.
Policy of OLL • Service is available for members in India including Mumbai. • Online payment for getting the OLL membership. • Membership will be valid for one year. • Loan Period is one month for books and renewal for additional one month. • Auto-emails for issue / return / renewal of books by member to Library.
Software Requirement for OLL • Be easily understandable by people of average computer skills. • Be safe enough so that users can not corrupt it. • Be fast enough. • Be able to handle more than one concurrent user. • Be able to evolve without damaging existing system. • Have the capacity to handle expansion. • Be friendly to both users and maintainers.

Group Corporate Membership (GCM) • GCM designed for corporates having multiple branches across India. • Multiple logins are given to cos. & availability of requesting more no. of books. • Maximum 20 books in total will be issued to Companies at a point of time. • The procedures of issue / return / renewal are same as discussed in OLL member login.

Response for OLL • Encouraging responses from professionals, researchers and students. • In the very first year of OLL operation, the system has received around 500 transactions. • We see a great future for the system over the years.
Conclusion • This is one of its kind of library in the country covering the entire geography. • III Planning to extend the OLL service to Srilanka, Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh. • Our goal is to empower people across the country and SEA with the knowledge of Insurance.
