  2. Why Tongues • James 3:5- Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth! • 6 -And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.

  3. Why Tongues • James 3:8 But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. • No Man can tame the tongue. • Tame-made docile and submissive. • Docile- easily taught or managed.

  4. Sign of the Covenant • Noah’s sign of God’s promise was the? : • Rainbow • Abrahams sign of God’s Covenant or Promise was?: • Circumcision • For Moses was the law ( 10 commandments) • New Testament Promise-Holy Ghost: • Luke 24:49, Acts 1:4-5, 1 Cor 14:22-read • 1 Cor 14:39- Forbid not to speak w/ tongues.

  5. Evidence of Receiving • Evidence-an outward sign: indication, something that furnishes proof. 2-one who bears or holds witness. • Acts 1:8-READ • Acts 2:1-4, • Tongues-Languages-over 6800-7000 Known dialects. • Acts 10:45-46 They heard them speak in tongues. Acts 19:6

Helps me Pray • 1 Cor 14:2 -For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. • 4 He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesiethedifieth the church. • Rom 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

Power & Authority • Acts 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. • Luke 10:19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
