NAPPO contributions to global ePhyto • Objective: • Contribute to the development of global electronic certificate exchange. • Support to IPPC on elaboration of Appendix 1 of ISPM 12; • “Spreading the word”: increasing awareness within the Americas
NAPPO contributions to global ePhyto • Achievements: • Active participation in ePhyto Steering Committee until disbanded in June, 2013; • Active involvement in the organization of the workshop in Brazil: Introduction to the IPPC “ePhyto”; • NAPPO eCert Panel • helped IPPC steward answer country comments to Appendix 1 of ISPM 12; • Organized in collaboration with IICA and the GICSV an introductory workshop in Costa Rica.
GICSV workshop: An introduction to the IPPC “ePhyto” • Highlights: • 46 participants (including speakers), representing 21 of the 34 countries in the Americas; • Participant profile: • 25% were IT specialists. • Some countries had both IT and plant specialists (Costa Rica, Ecuador, Honduras, Panama, Paraguay, and the 3 NAPPO countries). • One industry representative (Canadian forestry sector), one from trade (government of Colombia) and one representative from Customs (Paraguay).
GICSV workshop: An introduction to the IPPC “ePhyto” • Highlights: • For the Caribbean countries, Ecuador and some others, this was the first exposure to the topic of IPPC ePhyto; • Repetition of basic aspects and having many discussion group opportunities was crucial to success; • Talk on “Minimum requirements for setting up ePhyto nationally” was of particular interest; • Steps forward by country and in the process were discussed; • Commitments to finalize FAQs (NAPPO) and a generic introductory presentation (COSAVE)
NAPPO contributions to global ePhyto • Future steps: • Offer of support made to Caribbean countries – to be defined; • Possible development of a generic “how to” for countries with less technology; • Support if/when required by new ePhyto Steering Group
