  2. Who are some of the important people involved in this movement? • The tayu is the voice of all the puppets (men, women, and children. • The shamisen provides a musical background

  3. What are the defining characteristics? • Some characteristics about the puppets in bunraku.!!! • The characters in bunraku are usually ½ to life sized and controlled by 3 puppeteers • Have no strings but can move their arms,legs, and roll eyes.

  4. When did this style come about? • Bunraku is a traditional play preformed by puppets. Bunraku came about in the late 16th century. • In 1686 a collaboration with ChikamatsuMonzaemon and TakemotoGidayu established the Takemoto puppet theater.

  5. Where did this style emanate from? • Osaka is the birthplace of Bunraku, which is the most exciting puppet theater in the world.

  6. How is this style performed? How is it different from other styles of theatre? • Bunraku is preformed by a puppet. In Bunraku both characters are narrated by the same person the whole time. • Bunraku is different because as it is similar to noh, the movements are different because of the puppets.
