What will we do with our knowledge of the parables? • Jesus wants us to understand, 13:51 • Parables give us understanding about the kingdom, Matt 13:11, 17 (36) • Only if we harden our hearts and fail to listen will we fail to understand, Jno 8:43; 7:17; Matt 13:13-15
What must we do with what we understand? • Scribe: Expert in the law, Jno 3:9-10; 7:49 • Often taught but did not obey, Lk 11:46 (Matt 23:1-3) • By binding tradition they “took away knowledge”, Luke 11:52 • Be true kingdom-scribes, Matt 28:19; Acts 8:4 (cf. Ezra 7:10)
What must we do with what we understand? • Teach the gospel of the kingdom as it is needed, Heb 5:11-12 • Like a householder who uses his resources to benefit his house… • We are to provide useful teaching and learning to others (and for ourselves) from the gospel treasure we have learned • Sowing the seed, Matt 13:3
What must we do with what we understand? • This will include… • Urgently, constantly and faithfully preaching the word of God, 2 Tim 4:2 • Teaching ourselves, Rom 2:21 • Teaching others, 2 Tim 2:2 • Setting good examples by obeying the word we teach, 2 Tim 2:15, 24-26 • We are bearing fruit when we teach the gospel (Matt 13:23)
The King came teaching about His Kingdom (Jer 23:5-6) • Word of the kingdom, Matt 13:19 • Parables used to teach the kingdom’s growth, influence, value, purposes • Sinners can share in its rich blessings and avoid the punishment of sins • Will you be ready for the end?
