Agrupación Pasos Sureños(Pasos Sureños Organization) Presents
. . . building humanitarian links A briefhistory… The primary purpose of Pasos Sureños is to enhance the life conditions of the Mapuche and other families living in rural communities in the ninth region of Chile, by providing instructional workshops that teach health care, skills training and improved farming techniques.
The beginning of our project was in Quelhue in the year 1997 then it was called ‘Mapuche Quest’ with Family Care Foundation … Our first objective . . . to get to know our neighbors
We organized projects with them to understand their needs better and what they wanted in life..
We made a ‘Ruca’ to live in the community with them . . . learning about how they live everyday
With the ‘Liwen Team’ (University of Temuco), we built a ‘Ruca’ (Mapuche house) so they could sell their Mapuche products to passing tourists during our first Summer . .
We visited our neighbors taking them donations of clothes and taking time with them . . .
In the following years we made many forwards steps to understand what we needed to do to continue to help building bridges of humanitarian aid that would help to improve their daily lives . . . In the area of Health Makewe Hospital, Temuco
In the year 2002, with the help of the Rotary Club of Villarrica, Diane went to the U.S. to put together 2 containers of humanitarian aid for the Makewe Hospital in Temuco . . . 80 manual hospital beds were donated in the last few days before the containers left!
We organized several projects in the community of Delcaco . .
In Neltume we took donations for the people of a community, working together with a church which is ministered by pastor Ramiro y Sra. Rosa of Delcaco . . . Also in Victoria we did the same . .
In the year 2003, in Delcaco we started our volunteer program. .
In June 2007, we started our non-profit organization Pasos Sureños and one month after we began the preparations to move to our own property, where we are right now . . .
In October 2008 we presented our first proposal for “Earthworm farming in a rural community” with Family Care Foundation, California. . . . And in November we received a positive answer! . . .So we began, to complete we needed to have everything up and running by, the 22nd of January 2009
Some of our present goals are: • Establish a Resource/Volunteer Center where we can coordinate programs, workshops, donations, community efforts and document more for the benefit of community improvements. • Establish Workshops: Sustainable agriculture, Earthworm farming, beekeeping, community projects, English and Mapudugun, basic understanding of modern and worldly ways, computer knowledge and health awareness • Establish projects for irrigation or water sources, alternative energy and other improvements to existing living conditions in our rural community and other indigenous communties in the area • Promote health and educación, at all levels • In general, develop filantropic works for the benefit of the rural indigenous communities in the area
In conclusion we want to invite you to join efforts with us; you are welcome to help in anyway you want . . . Contact us at: info@pasosurenos.org www.pasosurenos.org Tel: (56-9) 9434-0289
