  3. National Daily Newspapers(Broadsheets) • The national quality newspaper follows the tradition of the journals of eighteenth century and early nineteenth century and contain political, industrial, financial and cultural news in the U.K and international news as well.

  6. Popular Newspapers(Tabloids) • The Popular national newspapers are mainly represented by newspapers founded after the launching of the Daily mail in 1896.Most of them sell more than a million copies a day. They are largely tabloids, half the size of broadsheets.

  10. National papers and local papers They contain news of interest to a particular region or town. They contain news of national interest. They are sold national. They are sold in that locality.

  11. The newspaper printing and publishing • The old image of London’s Fleet Street or Manchester as the centre of the newspaper printing and publishing world has changed. All of the national newspapers have moved their quarters to other parts of London or away from the capital. Today newspaper is printed both at Poyl and Manchester.

  12. The national newspapers and Sunday newspapers are owned either by big industrial groups with many business interests, or by specialist newspaper companies run on an industrial basis.

  13. Periodicals • The most important periodicals are Economist (经济学家), New StatesmanandSociety, 《新政治家和社会》 Spectator(旁观者), New Society(新社会), Private Eye(侦探) and New Scientist(新科学家)

  15. B.B.C. • The B.B.C. was founded in 1922 and chartered in 1927 as an independent public corporation, it’s the largest news agencies in Britain. The B.B.C. is financed by payments from T.V. license and Government.

  18. News Agencies • There are several news agencies in Britain. Reuters(路透社), the Press Association Ltd. (联合通讯社)and Extel Financial are the main ones

  19. Reuters was founded in 1851 by the German, Julius Reuter. The principal news agency in every country in the world is affiliated to Reuters. It is an important tool of the British government.

  20. The Press Association Ltd. • The Press Association Ltd. which was founded by provincial newspapers on a co-operative basis in 1868 is the oldest and largest news agency operating exclusively in Britain.

  21. Extel Financial • Extel Financial is a news agency based in London and has a net work of offices in Europe and the United States and direct representation in Japan and South-East Asia.
