  3. Case Study – Staff portal Soon to be launched: • Manage HR records • Manage publications • Manage research administration • Produce automatic staff web profiles Great, eh?

  4. The Players • Corporate systems / portal team • Web Team • Academic IT Services • Admin depts: HR, Finance, etc. • Management

  5. Scenarios 1 – 15 minutes • Split into groups • 15 minutes to read brief and discuss • Decide strategy/elect spokesperson/spokespeople

  6. Scenarios 2 – 15 minutes • Meet other group • Negotiate • Reach agreement (or not) Senior management will ask you to present your solution in 15 minutes’ time!

  7. Senior Management are here! • What agreement have you reached? • Present your findings to us on flipchart • Summary sackings will commence thereafter

  8. Scenarios 3 – Feedback • What were the outcomes? • How did you approach the discussion? • What worked well? • What didn’t work? • What have you learned?

  9. What have we learned? • Agreements can be made with unlikely allies • Seemingly disparate objectives may be linked • You can’t always get what you want, when you want • But it doesn’t have to be a disaster • And what you originally desired might not have been really what you needed
