Getting To School • Buses for students who live more than 1.5 miles from school. • Many students walk to school daily.
Rise & Shine • Building opens at 7:30 AM & 6th graders can go into the MPR starting at 7:45 AM. • Monroe’s day starts at 8:00
Daily Schedule • 8 period day • Each class period is 45 minutes long • 4 minutes to pass between classes • 30 min lunch period – separate lunch for each grade
ACCESS • Every Wednesday from 2:25-3:00 • Students may be pulled to work with a teacher (target access) or have a study hall (general access) • Also used as a time for school wide team- building activities
Bell Schedule Period 1 8:00-8:45 A.M. Period 2 8:49-9:34 A.M. Period 3 9:38-10:23 A.M. LUNCH 10:26-10:56 A.M. Period 4 10:59-11:44 A.M. Period 5 11:48-12:33 P.M. Period 6 12:37-1:22 P.M. Period 7 1:26-2:11 P.M. Period 8 2:15-3:00 P.M.
6th Grade Classes • Language Arts or “Block” • Mathematics • Science • Social Studies • Physical Education • Inter-related Arts (IRA) & Collaboration & Leadership • Foundations
Language Arts • Language Arts or “Block” is two periods long (90 minutes total). • Regular and Fast Paced Levels offered.
Mathematics • 2 Levels of math offered • Math 6 • Advanced Pre-Algebra
Science • Color & Light • Ecology and Stream Monitoring • Rivers, Streams, & Erosion • Scientific Method & Safety • Solar System • Electricity & Magnetism
Stream Monitoring After studying rivers and streams in science, 6th graders take a trip to further explore the waters.
Social Studies • Middle East • Africa • Asia • Europe (Parts 1 & 2) • The Americas
Physical Education Class • Uniforms for PE – EVERYDAY! • The same uniform is used all 3 years in middle school (& H.S.) • Everyone gets a separate PE locker.
Interrelated Arts • 9 week units covering • Music • Art • Drama Collaboration & Leadership • Focus on learning to prevent bullying, build confidence & collaborate with others.
Foundations • Study habits • Test taking skills • Vocabulary Building • Structured Study Environment Band & Orchestra classes will meet during this time
Music Program • Monroe has a band & orchestra for all grade levels. • Chorus will be offered for 7th & 8th graders.

Late Bus • 2 Buses – North & South side • Monday – Thursday @ 4:10 PM • Must be participating in a school activity

Interscholastic Athletics 6th Graders may participate in: Cross Country Wrestling
Interscholastic Athletics 7th & 8th Grade: • Cross Country • Girl’s Volleyball • Wrestling • Boy’s Basketball • Girl’s Basketball • Track & Field
Information on Athletics • Sport physicals are required EVERY year for Interscholastic Sports. • Interscholastic Sports are $125. 00 per sport. • Reduction in fees is available for some – see your counselor or PE teacher. • Intramurals are free.
Health Requirements for 6th grade • 6th grade School Physical on the IDPH School Physical Form (required K, 6th, 9th) • Send in physical/current immunization record (all 6th graders need a TDap) to office before schedule pick-up. Those without a physical on file will be excluded from school according to the district policy. • Varicella -Beginning with school year 2014 – 2015, any child entering sixth grade shall show proof of having received two doses of varicella vaccine. • Please update the school nurse with any health concerns you may have for your student.

Schedule Pick Up August 13th – 7th & 8th Grade August 14th – 6th Grade 8 AM – 2PM *ID photos will be taken and given out on these days
