  2. Overview • State GIS Council • CIRGIS • Channel Islands Regional GIS Collaborative • CCJDC • Central Coast Joint Data Committee • CGIA • California Geographic Information Association • Others

State GIS Council • Formed around 2000 as part of an effort to better coordinate State GIS activities • Mostly CA state based, but includes local, tribal, federal, private representation • Encouraged the formation of Regional GIS Councils to further support, and communicate throughout the state • Activity has varied over the years • Now part of the State’s CIO • http://www.cio.ca.gov/wiki/CAGISCouncil.ashx • http://www.cio.ca.gov/wiki/CAGISCouncilRegionals.ashx

CCJDC • Central Coast Joint Data Committee • Santa Cruz, Monterey, San Benito • Mostly driven and supported by AMBAG • Association of Monterey Bay Area Governments, regional planning organization • A couple of other key supporting people • Good success in completing cooperative projects • http://ccjdc.org/

CIRGIS • Channel Islands Regional GIS Collaborative • Ventura, southern Santa Barbara counties • Initial 1997 formation by Ventura Co. & others • Current support by cities, counties, nonprofits, UCSB, Ventura College, key individuals • 501(c) nonprofit, has financial standing, board • Most funding by grants & cooperative projects • Some cooperative projects (aerials 2 yr cycle) • Data sharing agreements • http://cirgis.org/

  6. CGIA • California Geographic Information Association • Not a regional GIS council • Has been able to succeed and help the State GIS Council • Due to lack of organizational restrictions • Includes a list of all regional GIS councils • http://cgia.org/
