Love for Condiments

Do not stock organic condiments for more than a year even if they have a shelf life of more than that. Reason being that generally, organic condiments, and even conventional condiments lose their potency within a year and need replacement.

  1. Love for Condiments I love sauces. Barbecue sauce, thousand island, mustard- honey, teriyaki and possibly every type of sauce. Hubby loves the sandwiches and pastas that I keep experimenting with. Specially Italian and Chinese cuisines are full of sauces, herbs and spices as the primary flavoring condiments. So basically, condiment is about three ‘S’s- Spice, seasoning, sauce. Ancient India has a legacy of condiments. But I was startled to know that condiments, if not bought through careful scrutiny, could be quite over the top. Since they are a source of either salt, sugar, calories or salt, we sometimes add all of these tour otherwise healthy meal. So it’s pretty much about picking ones that add, rather than take away from our health. Let’s figure it out- Don’t Touch the ketchup The ketchup that you often tend to add to your meals at McDonalds and other fast food joints, could be pretty much high on sugar and might add up to the calories that you generally consume in a day. Nine

  2. grams of ketchup has 4 percent of the recommended daily intake of sodium on top of whatever you are adding the ketchup to (fries, burgers, hot dogs, are already very high in sodium). You could also try organic ketchup, which still contain sugar and sodium, but much less than your garden-variety brand. Organic Sauces generally do not categorize itself in the ‘harmful’ league of your daily condiment. Danger Dressings Dressings are so powerful for a pasta or a sandwich that it can completely change the way a particular one tastes. Conventional dressings available at your nearby superstore are full of preservatives which are nothing but a chemical infused way of enhancing the shelf life. Instead if you use organic olive oil, organic apple cider vinegar, etc. to replace the other conventional dressings, I think the work would be done and at the same time enhance the taste as well. Seasoning Organic seasoning is by far the most effective non-hazardous condiment. And seasoning helps you get the taste you want and serves the purpose. All you got to do is stock up some cuisine-wise seasoning in your kitchen and there you go! They are also generally your alternate to salt and sugar. Bonus Tip- Do not stock organic condiments for more than a year even if they have a shelf life of more than that. Reason being that generally, organic condiments, and even conventional condiments lose their potency within a year and need replacement.
