  3. 4.1 Multiplying decimals and whole numbers. vocabulary words Review the content When you multiply a decimal and a whole number, the number of decimal places in the product is the same as the number of decimal places in the decimal factor. EXAMPLE: 0.006 x 7 = 0.042 Write a zero as a placeholder so that the answer has three decimal places. • Commutative property of multiplication. • Associative property of multiplication.

  4. 4.2The distributive property Vocabulary words Review content • You can multiply a number and a sum by multiplying the number by each part of the sum and then adding these products. The same property applies with subtraction. • Example: • Numbers 3 ( 4+6 ) = 3( 4 ) + 3(6) • Distributive property
