Australia is below the equator. It is one of the seven continents of the world. It is also a country. The first people to live in Australia were aborigines. Aboriginal means first. They were like Native Americans. Today there are still aborigines in Australia.

  1. Australia is below the equator. • It is one of the seven continents of the world. It is also a country.

  2. The first people to live in Australia were aborigines. Aboriginal means first. • They were like Native Americans. Today there are still aborigines in Australia.

  3. In Australia most people live in or near cities. They speak English.

  4. There are six states in Australia. • 18.3 million people live there. • Most of the people think that Sydney is the capital of Australia, but Canberra is the capital.

  5. The weather in Australia is warm and nice.  • The warmest months in Australia are December, January and February.

  6. In the countryside, there are some sheep and cattle farms. •  There are about ten times more sheep than people in Australia. • Sheep are raised for wool and for meat.

  7. There are not many schools in the country. • Children who live on farms can’t go to school. • They use a two way radio to hear their teachers' lessons.

  8. The most famous animals in Australia are marsupials. • A marsupial is a mammal that has a pouch to carry its baby. • Some kangaroos can jump about 10 meters. • The koala sometimes stays in the same tree for days and is endangered.They are the laziest animals in the world. marsupial koala kangaroo

  9. The Great Barrier Reef is also in Australia. It is made up of coral. • The Great Barrier Reef is about 2000 kilometres long. There is a channel of water between the reef and the Queensland coast. • It is the world's largest living structure.

  10. Today Sydney is Australia's largest city. • The Sydney Opera House is one of the most famous buildings in the world.

  11. Australia's national sport is Cricket. • Australia is also famous for the boomerang. The aborigines used the boomerang as a weapon. • Today, children use it as a toy.
