HiSPARC Ilka Tánczos CRSP workshop 2006, Lisbon
Overview • Network status • Funding • Website (tools) • Science objectives and activities Not about • Electronics (Bob) • Implementation at schools (Colle) • Database (Bob)
Status HiSPARC Groningen: 4detectors Difficult to keep detectors online. Amsterdam: 20detectors Leiden: 7 detectors Utrecht: 2 detectors Nijmegen: 9 detectors
Funding • Official support from the NIKHEF, FOM and of the participating universities. • Funding from the ministry for education for development of material and support • Ad hoc sponsoring from foundations, companies etc.
Teaching material • General courses • Mathematics • Material from Nebraska • All material available via website • Contributing to new Physics curriculum
Science • Systematic detector evaluation • Ph.D student • Objectives (random order): • Spectrum 10^16-10^19 • Simulations • Zatsepin -Gerasimova effect • Low energy part • Combination with radio antenna’s (Lopes set-up/LOFAR) • …..
Zatsepin-Gerasimova effect • Correlated showers • Composition and origin • Typical distances 50-100 km(Medina-Tanco & Watson 1999) • Clustered set-up ideal • Need to improve density of the network
(Euro Cosmics) Contacts • Material to Denmark (Hans Fynbo) • Quarknet • Material from CROP • Auger (Electronics)
