Heating System Basics • A heating system must be able to provide acceptable comfort at the lowest anticipated outdoor temperature. • In the U.S. and abroad, most boilers have a heat capacity between 1.5 to 2 times larger than that needed to maintain the space temperature on these extreme days. • Due to over-sizing of the boiler, the burner cycles on and off continuously to prevent overheating of the system water during any call for heat. • The Burner cycling rate is directly proportional to the Heating load and System losses. • The relative over-sizing is greatest in the spring and fall and minimal in the dead of winter. Hydronic Heating System Economizers: How They Work In much the same way as Outdoor Air Reset Control changes boiler water temperature to match anticipated heating demands, and thus improve system efficiency, using our patented technology has the same Energy-Saving effect without the pitfalls. • Microprocessor monitors outflow water temperature and rate of change continuously from strap-on temperature sensor. Hydronic Heating System Economizers: How They Work • Microprocessor detects changes in system load through analysis of temperature changes. • Based on analysis an optimum hold-off temperature is computed. • Microprocessor inhibits Burner firing until hold-off temperature is reached. • Microprocessor is continuously monitoring load changes and re-computing the hold-off temperature.
