Thunderstorms & Lightning Hurricanes (Cyclones)
If there is a flood: • Never drive or walk across flooded roadways.
If there is a tornado: • Hide in a basement or on the lowest floor of a building • Do not stand near windows. Debris can cause serious injuries.
If there is a thunder & lightning storm: • If indoors, stay away from windows • If you are outside, seek shelter inside.
If there is a Hurricane Watch/Warning: • Stay inside. Prepare for power outages & flooding • Make sure your emergency kit is ready • Listen to alerts from the county

Make a Plan • A written plan should include: • What to prepare for • Whom to contact (in-town and out-of-town) • Where to meet • Whether to stay or go (shelter in place or evacuate) • What to do
Make a Kit • An emergency kit should include supplies to survive for 72 hours • Water • Food • Clothes and shoes • Can opener • Radio and batteries • Flashlight and batteries • First aid kit • Medication • Hygiene items • Important documents
Community Preparedness • Identify a support network and establish relationships with friends and neighbors. • In emergency situations or power outages, check in with neighbors to make sure they are safe.
