How is Heat Transferred? Heat travels through conduction, convection and radiation.
How Heat Changes Matter? Phase changes happen when certain points are reached: freezing point, boiling point and melting point.
Heat Makes a Difference • Particles in a solid move very little. • Particles in a liquid move and flow. • Particles in a gas move around quickly.
Measuring and Preserving Heat Energy We often use the Fahrenheit scale to measure temperature.
What is insulation? Insulation is a barrier that minimizes the transfer of heat energy from one material to another by reducing the conduction, convection and/or radiation effects.
Greenhouse Effect The Greenhouse Effect is the rise in temperature in the Earth’s atmosphere due to the greenhouse gases trapping energy from the sun. To learn about the Greenhouse Effect explore the EPA Climate Change Kids Site at: http://www.epa.gov/climatechange/kids/index.html To learn what we can do to help, explore EIA Energy Kids at: http://tonto.eia.doe.gov/kids/energy.cfm?page=about_energy_efficiency-basics
