Simile “Dat Spitz fight lak a devil,” -Spitz fights cheap, mean, and evilly. This relates to the theme, survival. -This relates to the theme of the book, survival. Spitz and Buck, throughout the first third, are constantly fighting. Even when the team is in danger!
Metaphor “I spik true w’en I say dat Buck two devil,” -Buck has the power two times that of Spitz. -This relates to the tone of the book, intensity. Spitz and Buck are always intense into battle. Fighting and even making a daily run with Perrault. This could get tiring and that’s what creates a great mood of intensity.
Symbolism “a man with a club was a law giver.” -The man with a club is the man that you will obey. No choice. -In order to survive, Buck must obey. Buck must listen to his masters and obey the rules that they give him. If not, there are consequences.
Foreshadowing “Buck wondered where they went, for they never came back : but the fear of the future was strong upon him,” -Foreshadowing the theme is highly important if you want the reader to wonder about what is yet to come? What is the final Theme? Tone? Mood?
Alliteration “Spitz was wild within wrath,” -Spitz was “tic” off and was out of control. -Fright, the dogs are in frightened by the way Spitz is and treats them. Spitz creates the fright to be the leader.
Over statement “Mercecle’s scream came to their ears.” -From a quarter of a mile away they heard her scream. -This also relates to the mood, fright. The fact that a scream can be heard from a quarter of a mile away puts fright into them.
