Information TechnologyHighlights • Complete Conversion to Internet for Data Transfer • Database on Great Lakes Freezing Degree Days • Conversion of Imagery Data to Common Format • Initiated Discussions of Architecture/Data Model • Established Mechanisms for Regular Exchange of Information Between Centres on System Architecture, Hardware, and Software Developments in Each Centre.
Science and Remote SensingHighlights • Two meetings of NIC and CIS science groups in addition to JIWG. Priorities and areas of mutual interest identified. • QuikScat: exchange of information on algorithm development and validation studies. • C-ICE: NIC participation in CIS field experiment to collect data on the strength of decaying sea ice. • NIC attendance at CIS sponsored polarimetry tutorial and workshop. • Implementation at NIC of CIS developed false color SSM/I ice classes. • NIC/CIS participation in NASA Data Assimilation Workshop to stress importance of data assimilation to operational sea ice analysis.
Iceberg CommitteeHighlights • Renew agreement between USCG IIP and CIS. • Develop and implement a plan to verify the new iceberg drift and deterioration model. • –using drifting buoys? dyeing icebergs? • Develop protocol/procedure to implement SOLAS reg.6, Chap 5 (2002 changes) on cost recovery • IIP aircraft visit to Ottawa (May 29-31) for technical exchange, media exposure for the collaborative activities of the JIWG
