You Are Some Sort of Scientist 你是某种科学家 • It is gratifying to know that each of us is some sort of scientist. Science deals with the repeatable, observable, and predictable phenomena. If you cook in the kitchen, you are a domestic scientist, because cooking involve all aspects of science. Cooking is certainly repeatable, observable, and predictable. I once cooked pork feet. The experience was enlightening. After cleaning the pork feet, they were placed in a medium size pot with some amount of water. Put the stove on high until it boils. Then turn the stove to low for an hour. It was not done yet because the ligaments in the bones were still intact. Although they were cooked, they could not be eaten. The stove was put on low for another hour. The ligaments began to get loosen. For best result, the pork feet should be put on for another hour. At that time, the pork feet will be ready. It is strict science. That’s why you can buy a cook book from a nuclear physicist for $600. 11/4/2014 2

Science is Everywhere 科学无处不在 • Science can be found everywhere, if you care to look. Let me use my cooking experience again. My former landlady routinely threw away the egg white from duck eggs because it is too salty. Only the egg yolks are used in dumpling. Bakery kitchens do exactly the opposite. They throw away the egg yolks and keep only the egg white. The egg white, with a bit sugar, are mixed in a large mixer. They become white cream used in cakes. Some edible artificial colors can also be added to the cream to decorate cakes. That is how your birthday cake is made. 11/4/2014 6

Sure enough, it was too salty to eat because it was saturated with salt water. I know that protein does not dissolve in water, because water is a polar molecule while protein is not. Based on this fact, I put large amount of water in a big pot. I put the stove on high and I kept stirring the water continuously until the water turned cloudy. Science is Almost Everywhere 科学几乎无处不在 • During this time, I saw the egg white gradually thickened. The water became more viscous. If I stop stirring the water, then it would stop moving gradually because of the drag of inertia of the water molecules. At this time, I thought of the spiral of a galaxy. All stars move in a medium of hydrogen which provides the drag. If given enough time, the stars would stop moving. Because of gravitation, the stars would clump in the center and go into a black hole. This suggests that the galaxy cannot be eternal, otherwise we would have them. 11/4/2014 9

Science is Almost Everywhere 科学几乎无处不在 • Finally, the egg white protein began to float on the surface of water because it is lighter than water. I then separated the protein into another plastic container. Now the egg white protein can be eaten although it is slightly salty. I probably removed more than two thirds of the sodium chloride from the duck egg white. Thank God for giving me the opportunity to know more about the wonders of His created world. 11/4/2014 11

He reported that “a 1.8-meter (6 feet) nurse shark at the Birmingham National Sea Life Centre (UK) has turned vegetarian. • “Since 2009, Florence (as her handlers call her) has shunned any form of meat or fish. Instead she eats broccoli and cabbage and ‘any other greens she can steal from fellow ocean tank resident Molokai the green turtle.’ • Her handlers are concerned that she is not having a proper diet, so they ‘use every trick that can devise’ to try to get her to eat meat. For example, they hide pieces of fish inside her celery, or in hollowed-out cucumbers, and between the leaves of lettuces. 11/4/2014 14

An ultrasound scan soon showed the problem. ‘The hook had previously been there for years and was badly rusted which is what made her so sick. She was put on antibiotics and made a swift recovery.’ • “No doubt the trauma of the fishhook experience is a factor in Florence’s vegetarianism. 11/4/2014 15

Vegetarian Shark 素食鲨鱼 • “But we should also remember that her shark ancestors 6,000 years ago in the pre-Fall world didn’t eat fish either. Sharks developed their fish-eating habits only after Eve gave Adam the fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, and he ate it (Gen 3:6). That action brought death, pain, carnivory and diseases in the world. So Florence’s capacity for plant-eating shouldn’t be too much of a surprise (even though she and other ‘vegetarian carnivores’ in today’s post-Fall world might need to augment their plant diet with fish or meat from time to time). 11/4/2014 17

I worked for a while in the electrical system of the ISS. It is the work of thousands of scientists and engineers who brought our technology into space from almost 20 countries round the world. It is indeed a masterpiece for world peace. Recently, Russian will withhold cooperation to ferry astronauts to the ISS at the end of next year. This is sad. May the Lord help us. Keshe Plasma GeneratorKeshe等离子发生器 • Recently I watched the demonstration of a fascinating Keshe plasma generator. The electrodes enabled the hydrogen ions to give up their electrons, and thus creating a voltage difference at the electrodes. It is amazing. What is more important is to demonstrate the current generated also, because the current indicates the amount of electrons flowing through the line. You can have 10,000 volts but very few electrons. In Genesis 5:3-4, it says “When Adam had lived 130 years, he fathered a son in his own likeness, after his image, and named him Seth. The days of Adam after he fathered Seth were 800 years; and he had other sons and daughters.” • “It is true that Cain was firstborn (Gen 4:1), but scripture does not say anything about when sisters were born, not does it say that Seth was the third child or even the third son. We know that Seth was born when Adam was 130 years old, but also after another brother, Abel, was killed… 11/4/2014 27

And think of it: 130 years is a long time for Eve to have had a mere three children! That’s only one child every 43 years. Seeing that Adam and Eve were commanded to reproduce, it might be assumed that Cain was born pretty early, perhaps a year or two after Creation Week. Abel was born after that, but not necessarily next. His name appears next, but this is because he is an important part of the story. Yet even if Abel was the second child, it is unlikely that Seth was the third…. 11/4/2014 28

Thus, somewhere in that 130-year window, and likely close to the birth of Seth, was the world’s first recorded murder. How Old Was Cain When He Killed Abel?当该隐杀害亚伯时,他是多老？ • “I know the formula ‘and he had other sons and daughters’ sounds like the daughters always come after the first son is born, but I would argue it is more likely that Cain was of marrying age (and quite probably was already married, although we can never know), that there were already sisters present, that it is likely there were already unnamed brothers, and that Cain was perhaps already in his 120s when he murdered Abel. This is speculative, true, but this is more likely than Cain waiting to get married until after Seth was born and after sisters were born after Seth, and then waiting for them to grow up. It is even worse if he had to wait for nieces or grandnieces to come of age. The reproductive potential of people even in modern times (one child, on average, every 3-5 years when heavily nursing) suggests the named biological lineage is just a selection of all children born in the Genesis years. 11/4/2014 31

(Gen 4:16-17) says ‘Then Cain went away from the presence of the Lord and settled in the land of Nod. Cain knew his wife, and she conceived and bore Enoch. When he built a city, he called the name of the city after the name of his son, Enoch.’ 11/4/2014 32

Consider some of the important instances listed in the Bible: Noah’s grandchildren must have married each other (all of whom were cousins or siblings). Abraham married his half-sister Sarah (Gen 20:12). Abraham’s son Isaac married his closer-than-a-cousin Rebecca. And Jacob married his much-closer-than-cousins Leah and Rachel. First of all, the context is about 130 years after the initial creation. And it is quite likely that Cain feared retribution from the living relatives of the murder victim, that is, the individuals born during those many decades. It’s in Namibia, on the west coast of southern Africa, a country that’s a little larger than Texas, but with only a tenth of the population—just 2.2 million people. • “The Fish River flows over a remarkably flat landscape, into the Orange River along the border with South Africa. For three quarters of its 650-km length, the river runs across the land, but in its last quarter it cuts down into the rocks forming the spectacular canyon. 11/4/2014 38

The overwhelming impression is dryness. The land is arid. The countryside is brown and dusty, and trees are conspicuously absent. During the few months comprising the rainy season the river is muddy and flows quickly in the gorge, but for most of the year it’s just a trickle between strings of water holes. • “In such an arid climate, how would the distinctive landscape around Fish River Canyon have been eroded? For all its dryness, the landscape looks like there was a lot of water flowing over it in the past. Water provides the clue. 11/4/2014 39

The Formation of Canyon in Arid Namibia在干旱的纳米比亚峡谷形成 • “Look at the flat plain in the distance across the canyon from the lookout. This flat surface is even more obvious in satellite pictures, as available through Google maps. This flat land surface suggests that the area was eroded by a wide expanse of flowing water that eroded the rocks. Flat landscapes are a tell-tale signature of Noah’s Flood, in particular the period in the second part of that event when the waters were receding in wide sheets from the earth. 11/4/2014 41

Further, it has maintained the same path as it cut through the thick layers of flat-lying sedimentary rocks and into the underlying metamorphic rocks. In other words, it has not cut sideways on the landscape but downwards. This means that the inner canyon started eroding when sea level was much higher, that the water flow through the canyon was high, and that the sea level fell rapidly so that the water flow eroded downwards rather than sideways. 11/4/2014 42

This erosion pattern is another characteristic of Noah’s Flood, signifying the time when ponded water was draining from on top of the plain. The ponded water would have flowed sideways into the main Fish River Canyon cutting the side canyons. The same features are present in Grand Canyon, USA. 11/4/2014 43

This means the eroded rock has been carried out of the region by the water. The deep inner canyon is another signature landform of Noah’s Flood, of the period when the waters had mostly receded but were still flowing in large channels. The area around Grand Canyon, USA has similar shaped features. 11/4/2014 45

A modern tourist is located within the canyon at Ai-Ais, and a visitors’ lookout has been constructed near Hobas. Abundant interpretive information has been provided on Perspex signs at this lookout, and most of the material is excellent. But the geological information is presented using the geological philosophy that denies that Noah’s Flood ever happened. For people to be able to properly understand what they are looking at, and to make the connection between Fish River Canyon and what really happened on the earth, the geological information on the signs needs to include the Biblical perspective.” • Thank God for Dr. Walker’s contribution. 11/4/2014 46

He was born into a poor family in Victorian England and, having left school at the age of fourteen, had only a rudimentary education. He had many talents, however, and gained an apprenticeship as a bank note engraver, a demanding job that required strong technical drawing skills and excellent powers of observation. His place of work was near to the British Museum in London, which he visited regularly. He was fascinated by the many ancient clay tablets, with their strange characters composed of wedge-shaped impressions, known as cuneiform, and was later employed by the museum in their Department of Oriental Antiquities. He had remarkable abilities as a linguist, and was soon able to understand and translate the cuneiform scripts. 11/4/2014 49

This was one of a number of similar tablets which together comprise what is now known as the Epic of Gilgamesh. In many details, the account of the flood was very similar to that found in Genesis and Smith regarded it as remarkable confirmation of the biblical story of Noah. In December of that year, he read a paper before the Society of Biblical Archaeology titled, The Chaldean Account of the Deluge. The meeting was eagerly awaited, and attended by many influential people, including the British Prime Minister, William Gladstone, himself a committed Christian. 11/4/2014 50
