TI 8 beam commissioning on 24/25 May 2008 TI 8 beam commissioning 24/25 May 2008 / V.Mertens / LTI coordination meeting / 5.6.2008 Coordination of the beam commissioning by OP. Test closure and DSO test done on 16 May. TI 8 test scheduled between 24 May 8:00 and 25 May 24:00, with an interruption over night. RP survey scheduled for 26 May 8:00; allotted intensity: 5*10^13 p. DSO (draft) memo to authorise beam operation received Friday evening, “under conditions and with compensatory measures” (related to access protection). Discussion in CCC with OP, DSO, … on 24 May 10:30 authorisation to start (EDMS 923932). SPS access to investigate why the beam didn’t pass in TT20 (unrelated to TI 8). TI 8 work finally started at around 12:30. TBSE80243 gave always interlocks, even if out of the beam. Fixed by M.Donze. TED400354 was blocked in (from earlier tests). First shot down TI 8 at 14:07: first shot unsteered … traj. after some steering … BTVI87750 (J.Wenninger)
TI 8 beam commissioning on 24/25 May 2008 TI 8 beam commissioning 24/25 May 2008 / V.Mertens / LTI coordination meeting / 5.6.2008 In the following a lot of measurements done (see other presentations) until about 22:20 … … when suddenly the 18 kV cable supplying TI 8/CNGS broke down, putting an end to the test (beam for slightly over 8 h by then). Overall not much “new territory” explored; main results from 2004 confirmed. Total intensity used to this point approx. 6*10^12 p (about 10 % of intensity “budget”). All in form of single “pilot” bunch (approx. 6*10^9 p/shot); S-cycle length 25.2 s. RP survey as foreseen on Monday 8:00, with re-opening of the zones at around 9:30. Only new radiation zone 10 m into UJ88 and ~20 m backwards into R88, including LHC machine (but not the passage next to the LHC). Latest post-test news: 18 kV cable repaired in < 1 week (bad splice), but remains a single point of failure for LHC + CNGS. For TI 2: access protection rel. work, prior to test on 14/15 June, to be coordinated by ABP/RTL. (Helmut Vincke)
