Validation of Stopping Physics in Geant4.9.5 Julia Yarba, Krzysztof Genser Fermilab Geant4 HAD Group meeting 1/25/2012
Outline • Geant4: 9.5 & 9.4.ref10 (reference) • Particle + Target (1M events each): • pi-on C, N, O, Al, Cu, Ta, Pb • K- on H • pbar on H • Models: • Traditional (Geisha) and CHIPS – all particles • Bertini, Bertini+Precompound – pi-, K- • FTF – pbar • Stopping muons • NOTE: please add test48 to reference release(s) ! Julia Yarba, FNAL – 1/25/2012
pi- and K- • Data sets: • R.Madey et al.,Phys.Rev.C25,3050(1982) • K.Larson et al., Phys.Rev.D47,799(1993) • Focus on pi- • Standard interface to Bertini now available (incl. PreCo interface) • In tests, used both standard and “toy” interface from /test48 • MC vs Data and Regression tests vs G4.9.4.ref10 (see later) • No changes for K- from G4.9.4.ref10 Julia Yarba, FNAL – 1/25/2012
Summary on pi- • Standard interface to Bertini+PreCo for pi- as of G4.9.5, compared vs “traditional” and CHIPS • Berini+PreCo for pi- best overall fit with exp.data • However, comparison vs G4.9.4.ref10 shows some “wrong” deviations in Bertini+PreCo, especially for heavier targets • Cross-checks indicate changes in Bertini(-only) that contribute to the deviation; maybe some changes in PreCo Julia Yarba, FNAL – 1/25/2012
FTF - pbar on H • Data sets: • C. Amsler, Rev. Mod. Phys. 70, 1293 (1998) • C.B. Dover et al., Prog. Part. Nucl. Phys., Vol.29, pp.87-173 (1992) • Tested G4.9.5 - no changes vs G4.9.4.ref10 • Still the same overall observations (also next slide) • In general, good performance, 20x faster than CHIPS • Slightly underestimates overal pion multiplicity • Charged pion momentum somewhat off vs experimental data Julia Yarba, FNAL – 1/25/2012
Stopping Muons • Looked at the muon stopping code from Kevin Lynch (mu2e) • His idea was to make the existing geant4 code more modularized and configurable • Work to interface the code with test48 for initial testing • Further plans will be determined based on the results of the tests (when available) • Adding experimental data for mu- to test48 (neutron multiplicities, spectra, etc.) Julia Yarba, FNAL – 1/25/2012
