Let’s try together • We have all heard, “Make a good first impression.” Sometimes first impressions are incorrect but affect how we think or feel about a person for years to come. • Think about times you have judged someone based on your first impression of them. • Write about how to make a good first impression.
Studies show that the first impression is the most important impression. Use a firm grip when shaking a person’s hand. Look the person straight in the eye. Once, when I met a person for the first time, I was facing the bright sun. I kept squinting and looking down. Later we became friends, and the person confided to me that he thought I was not friendly, because I kept looking down.
Always comb your hair before meeting someone you do not know. Once, my sister was excluded from a club, because she went for a meeting with the officers of that club without washing her hair. They did not want a person to represent their club with dirty, oily hair. Be sure to smile. A warm smile not only makes the person comfortable, it makes them know you are a friendly, fun person.
Try it on your own – on the bottom of your notes number 1-4. You will decide which of the following examples are caution, anecdote, fact or example • Sports and games are important to many people. They provide physical and mental stimulation. • Think about an activity that impacts your life. • Write an essay about a sport or a game that people enjoy. Be sure to explain why people enjoy that activity.

3. Always try to castle in the first few moves to get in an offensive position. 4. My nephew, Jeremy, makes moves very quickly – BING, BANG, PLOP! He learned from the men in New York City playing speed chess.
