ELLE - SUCCESS STORY OF AN INTERNATIONAL TITLE ELLE was launched in May 1999. The title immediately became the market leader both in terms of advertising revenues and sales in the women‘s category. The reason lies in the striking editorial formula (impact on reader) and the high sophistication both of the pictorial material and the brand image (impact on advertisers).
FUTURE OPPORTUNITIES IN THE TURKISH MARKET As a consequence of the heavy economic crisis in 2001 magazines’ sales and ad revenues decreased significantly, but they seem to be recovering quickly. Turkey’s population is very young compared to the new EU members. They have a higher tendency for magazine reading. Because of the low per capita GNP, magazines are perceived as expensive. Despite this, many of the international magazines are market leaders in terms of both sales and advertising. Most international brands are present in Turkey. The EU membership in the foreseeable future should have a strong and positive impact on the economy.
