  2. Manufacturing Engineering Is… Environmental Biomedical Chemical Civil Audio Computer Mechanical Aerospace Agricultural Materials =

  3. Engineers take math and science with independent minds who ask, from paper and the lab to invent, design, and How can we…. www.discoverengineering.org build things that matter. They are team players

  4. -Theodore Von Karman, Aerospace Engineer “Scientists discover the world that exists; engineers create the world that never was.”

  5. Pre-Engineering Instructors Justin Sanders Cynthia Tuggle Thomas Electrical Engineering B.S. Tuskegee University M.S. University of Michigan Comprehensive Science B.S. University of Alabama Certified PLTW Instructor

  9. Project Lead The Way Engages students through a combination of activities, project, and problem-based learning. Creates an environment for applying engineering concepts to real problems. Prepares students to: work as a team, speak in public, conduct research, understand real-world impacts, analyze data, and learn outside the classroom.

  11. Computer Lab Facilities 21 seat Intel Pentium D Computer Lab Work Room equipped with drill press, miter saw & band Saw

  12. Intro to Engineering Design • Uses a design development process to enhance problem-solving skills; • Students create and analyze models using Autodesk Inventor 2010.

  13. Digital Electronics • Teaches applied logic through work with electronic circuitry, which students design, construct and test for functionality. Students use MultiSIM to design, test and build circuits

  14. Principles of Engineering • Explores technology systems, manufacturing processes, kinematics, statics, material testing, and addresses the social and political consequences of technological change. Students use Fischertechniks to design and program a “factory” to sort between three colors of marbles Students design & construct ballistic device to launch ping pong ball at target

  15. Computer Integrated Manufacturing • Enhances computer modeling skills by applying principles of robotics and automation to the creation of models of three-dimensional designs. Students learn to program Scorbot-ER 4u and Prolight 1000 CNC machine

  16. Engineering Design & Development • Students formulate the solution to an open-ended engineering question. • Students create, test, and evaluate prototypes, then present and defend their design to a panel of engineers. “Molly Monitor” designed to notify teacher when child is in danger of escaping the classroom. Adjustable desk allows students in wheel chair to access computer

  17. Mentoring Relationships • Alabama Power LEAP Mentoring Program • Students attend Engineering Day • KBR • Alabama Power • UAB Mentors from Alabama Power challenge students to design roller coaster Seniors attend Engineering Day at KBR

  18. BEST Robotics 2008 Just Plane Crazy: 1st Place Table Display & Interview Award South’s BEST Regional Competition Shea, Nagaria, & Chelsea Devlin & Sean troubleshoot problems during South’s BEST competition
