Naturalism Of Mice and Men employs a literary genre called "naturalism," a type of literature where the narrator looks at the characters as though they're scientific specimens: objectively and dispassionately. Naturalist novels often depict the world as a place where you have to fight to survive in a universe that has no morality and doesn't care about you. Uplifting stuff, eh?
Naturalism • Naturalism suggests the role of family background, social conditions, and environment shapes human character. Thus, naturalistic writers wrote stories based on the idea that environment determines and governs human character. • John Steinbeck is one of the more popular writers of the school of American naturalism. • His most famous naturalistic works: Of Mice and Men and The Grapes of Wrath.
