Chapter One Notes • Study vocabulary!!! • The basic elements of art are: line, shape, form, space, color, value, & texture. • The principles of design help artists organize the elements for specific effects. They are: rhythm, movement, balance, proportion, variety, emphasis, harmony, & unity.
The six major processes of art are drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, sculpture, & crafts. • Line is the most important element of art. • Drawing is generally the first step in starting a work of art.
Popular drawing media include: pencil, colored pencil, & charcoal. • The binder for oil paint is linseed oil & it’s solvent is turpentine. • The three basic properties defining a work of art are subject, composition, & content.
Assignment: • Do chapter review pg. 23 • Do Building Vocabulary (1-12) (just write the term.) • Do Reviewing Art Facts (1-7)(write in complete sentences or write the question!) • Turn in with your name & tray # to the red crate when finished!
