Why are Students Drawn to Manga? • “There’s something for everyone” • Wide variety of storylines and characters Ranma 1/2 Characters • Deceptively simplistic art style is appealing • “Next level up” to characters such as Snoopy, Garfield • Easy to identify with simplistic-looking characters Garfield

  10. Manga has Traditional Art Foundations • Manga is a medium/style to allow creative expression • Students need to learn art fundamental rules in order to understand how to break them

  12. Lesson 1: Drawing the Manga Head • Overview: Teach students how to correctly construct a manga-style head • Tie this into teaching a lesson of how manga proportions are related to real proportions

Overview: Students will learn about inking, a common technique used in comics, and particularly in manga Inking is a method of finalizing artwork Encourage students to experiment with different tools and line styles.
