Deductive Reasoning Section 2-4
Deductive reasoning uses a rule to make a conclusion. Inductive reasoning uses examples to make a conjecture or rule.
Law of Detachment If is a true conditional and p is true, then q is true. Ex. “If a coin is a penny, then it is made of copper.” • A coin is a penny. 2. It is made of copper.
Law of Syllogism If and are true conditionals, then is also true. • “If it’s an apple, then it’s a fruit.” • “If it’s a fruit, then it’s good for you.” 3. “If it’s an apple, then it’s good for you.”
Joke Time How do you paint a rabbit? With hare spray!
What did the rabbits say when the farmer caught them in the garden? Lettuce alone!
