Topics • Category Markings on VMF Message Description Pages • Restructure of URN Number for Rev “B” • Overlay Message and Symbology
Category Markings on VMF Message Description Pages • VMFSG Reacting to comments that the category markings were inconsistent and causing confusion to implementers • Army assigned an Action Item to propose a solution. Army solution is documented in ICP AV05-059. • Removes the “M” category from the standard • Removes all syntax marking • Redefines what “X” means
Restructure of Unit Reference Number • Concern is that the current URN field will require modification to meet coalition needs • Goal is to restructure the URN field to meet all future needs and simply the URN management process • Two proposals are under study • Insert a “Nationality” field and tie it to the current 24 bit number. • Alternate solution is to define a “REGEX” expression that would be a composite field such as Target Number is to denote Nationality and number.
Overlay Message and Symbology • Overlay Message Re-design • The re-design is an attempt to tighten the mapping between the fields in the VMF message and the requirements of MIL-STD-2525. • Lays out the symbols by category (Units, equipment, etc.). • Symbology - Discussion • Army CCB role in coordinating SSMC change proposals.
