CSE 3 By Finis Oh Visual Programming with Alice Overview • This was by far the hardest lab of the whole quarter. • We got to learn how to make short animated films using the program Alice. • We had to learn all the proper tags and coding for it, as well how all the functions work. • The most complicated Alice assignment was the Frog Escape Movie. It was very frustrating. Making Information Available to the World with HTML and Web Pages • This was probably the most useful and helpful lab we did, in terms of class material. • We basically went over all the html tags that we will be using in future labs. Basically, it was a template or a guide to programming. • After this we did the extra credit. Desktop Publishing with MS Word • We learned how to use Microsoft in a way that I never knew before. • We used different type of themes and headers. • We also learned how to convert them to PDF files, in order to make nicely presentable documents. This class was made for non-Computer science majors in order to teach them the basics of programming, Microsoft Office, and Javascript. Another purpose of this class was to help us keep track of technology today and give us a different perspective on how it is changing our lives everyday. Computational Thinking – Solving Problems, Designing Systems, Understanding the power and limits of human and machine intelligence. Dynamic Webpage Programming with JavaScript Data Analysis and Visualization with MS Excel Presentation of Information with MS PowerPoint • The first lab where we used Javascriptfor Programming. • Interactive website where it calculates the total prices of juices depending on the flavor and size. • Also has a Add function that totals the price. • We learned how to make a spreadsheet of a simulated yearly budget • Then, we learned how to take those data and create pie charts and bar graphs
