Demographics • Largest geographical police district in Vancouver • 47% of the geographical area of Vancouver • City had been divided into 23 geographical neighborhoods, District 4 encompasses 11.33 of these neighborhoods.
Population • Population of Vancouver in 2001 was estimated to be 545,671 • Population of District 4 in 2001 was 210,980 • Represents 38.66% of the total population of the City • Informal population projection for 2011 shows the population for District 4 at 218, 000
Musqueam • Located in the South West corner of the District • Semi self governed with Policing being included in services provided • Current population approximately 1200
Beaches and Parks • Beaches some of the most popular in the Lower Mainland • Average beach attendance between 1999 and 2003 show 3,176,594 visits per year • Van Dusen Gardens 160,000/year • Macmillan Bloedel Conservatory in Queen Elizabeth Park 120,000/year
Future Developments • Canada Line • University Town • South East False Creek
Canada Line • Construction estimated from 2005 – 2009 • Tunnel to run the length of Cambie St. from 2nd Av to Marine Dr • 8 new stations to be added in District Four
University Town • To be built along University Boulevard • 40,000 additional people to travel thru District 4 • Only routes in and out of the University are through District 4
South East False Creek • Olympic Village to be built in the area by 2009 • Currently the area is an aging industrial area with little residential use and light commercial use • Estimated population of this area between 11,000-14,00 new residents.
