  4. You have 30 minutes to do this assessment. • Name the two seas surrounding India. (1) • Describe the relief of India. (Shape of the land). (4) • Describe the living conditions of poorer people in Bombay. (5) • Explain (give reasons) some of the problems that people living on the Bangladesh delta face. (5) • What development issues does India face? What would be your solution? How was it for you? …now is the exciting part…Let’s mark it… • Arabian, Bay of Bengal or Indian Ocean • Two seas mentioned for 1 mark! • In North the Himilayas (1) • In the middle the Deccan Plateau (1) • This is flanked by the Western and Eastern Ghats(1) • Thar Desert in the North West (1) • Ganges flowing from Himilayas to the Bay of Bengal (1) • Maximum 4 marks • Pavement Dwellers (1), Overcrowding (1), Poor Sanitation (1), Slums (1), Sewage in the streets (1), Temporary/Shanty housing (1), Contamination (1), Poor Health (1), Babies die (1), Informal work (1), Limited job prospects (1)…. • Maximum 5…..Don’t argue!!! Flooding due to cyclones and lots of rivers flowing to the sea (extra mark if you mention distributaries) (1) • Salinisation due to sea water flooding the Sunderbans (1) freshwater is being removed by locals for irrigation (1) this causes drought (1) • Overfishing and aquaculture damages ecosystem (1) • Global Warming – rising sea levels could flood this area (1) • Housing, Health, Population, Peace (Pakistan), Education, Life Expectancy/Health Care, Conservation, Pollution, Water, Transport, Urbanisation…. (4) • Provided your solution is sensible and explained you will get a mark. (1) • You have a grade for this assessment. Record it in the back of your geography book. Are you happy with this grade?
