  2. Bologna Process in Serbia • Bologna Declaration 1998 • Serbia and Montenegro joins in 2003 • Law on Higher Education in September 2005 – a Bologna compatible law, replaces University Law • Strategy for implementation of HE law

  3. Bologna requirements • EstablishingasystemofcomparableandreadabledegreesincludingtheimplementationofDiplomaSupplement • Introduction ofthree-cyclesystemofstudies • Quality Assurance • IntroducingEuropeanCreditTransferSystem

  4. ECTS in HE Law • 60 ECTS credits = 40 work hours per week during one academic year • Core academic courses - 180 - 240 ECTS credits • Core courses of professional careers - 180 ECTS credits • Specialist professional career courses - at least 60 ECTS credits. • Specialist academic courses - at least 60 ECTS credits if diploma academic courses have previously been completed

  5. ECTS in HE Law • Master’s degree: 1) 60 ECTS credits at least, if the prior core academic courses earned a total of 240 ECTS credits; 2) 120 ECTS credits at least, if the prior core academic courses earned a total of 180 ECTS credits. • Doctoral degree studies 180 ECTS credits at least, with a compulsory previous total of at least 300 ECTS credits earned through the core academic and master’s degree courses

  6. Implementation of HE law • Creation of a national policy and strategy for higher education. • Conference of the Universitiesin October 2005 • Conference of the Higher Vocational School Directors - provisionally established

  7. Implamentation of HE Law – in progress • National Council for Higher Education by the end of March 2006 • Commission for Accreditation by the end of June 2006 • Statutes of universities and faculties by the end of September 2006 • Faculty councils for teaching and scientific work, student parliaments and election of deans by the end of September 2006 • University councils, university senate and university students’ parliaments, election of rectors by the end of December 2006

  8. Tempus • Tempus projects are a valuable tool facilitating inclusion of our country in European reform processes • Ministry support and participation
